Special Programs

Excursions & Camps

Students have the opportunity to participate in a variety of excursions around our local area to enhance learning opportunities such as the beach, museum, Darwin Entertainment Centre and Parliament House.

Year 4,5 and 6 students also have the opportunity to participate in school camps. They include the Territory Wildlife Park and the Batchelor Outdoor Education Centre. These camps promote curriculum learning outcomes, class bonding, leadership skills and teamwork opportunities outside of the school environment.

Chinese Sister - School Partnership

Nightcliff Primary School signed a memorandum of understanding with a Primary School Affiliated with Hefei Normal University with the undertaking that we would establish a sister school partnership in April 2016. This is part of an overarching agreement between the Department of Education Anhui Province and the Northern Territory Department of Education.

This mutually beneficial sister school partnership has paved the way for cultural awareness, cooperation and camaraderie. In the period since the establishment of this affiliation, our students have been provided with opportunities to be immersed in the Chinese culture through We Chat sessions with their peers from Hefei. Members of staff of both schools have also visited each other’s schools on multiple occasions to impart knowledge and further strengthen social and cultural ties.

Eco School

Nightcliff Primary School gained International Green Flag Accreditation (1) in 2019 and (2) 2021.

The Eco-Schools Seven Steps has assisted Nightcliff Primary School to maximize our success as an Eco-School. An Eco Committee was formed to lead the planning and implementation of environmentally and ecologically sustainable actions. The committee consists of students, teachers, NPS School Council, parents, professionals in environmental matters and members of the local community. All meet and work together to create our amazing school.

Nuon Solar Car

A solar car team from the Netherlands bases their team and solar car at NPS biannually in preparation for the 3000 km World Solar Car Challenge from Darwin to Adelaide. There is always much anticipation and excitement at our school prior to the arrival of the team who are next visiting. The Nuon Solar Team’s Nuna 8 was the winning team in 2017 and students had the opportunity to observe and discuss the teams preparation, planning, engineering and road trials.

It is an amazing opportunity for our students to observe 18 young engineers at work on the ultimate STEM project!

Technology & STEM

Nightcliff Primary School has a strong commitment to developing technology skills through the delivery of Information Communication Technologies in purposeful programs. Our school also believes in the need to develop skills required for new and emerging technologies. STEM is an integrated, interdisciplinary approach to learning that provides hands-on and relevant learning experiences for students. It engages students and equips them with critical thinking, problem-solving, creative and collaborative skills through coding, Lego Mindstorms, 3D printing and Bee-Bots.

National Science Week:

As part of National Science Week, students from Year 3-6 designed projects relating to the theme, 'Deep Blue'. Some students dedicated their recess time to create a prototype of their design and record a video explaining what they made.
